The clock radio function is excellent. This one gives you just local weather alerts and that is what is needed in an emergency. The FM band is excellent. I live in a low area about 200 feet below hills on both sides of my house.
I think that this is a excellent Weather Alert radio because it serves it purpose and is easy to operate. The only downside is no handle and what I feel is less than satisfactory instructions. The quality of the sound is between very good and great. My last Weather Alert radio was just to complicated, even in just using the clock radio features.
It does very well. Otherwise, if you need a NOAA Weather Alert Radio this is an excellent choice. It was a Reecom and even gave child alerts but programming was a major job. The AM receiver is very good because it is the first radio that I get numerous stations at my location.
WILL ALWAYS PURCHASE THIS TYPE OF PRODUCT FROM C.CRANE. EVERYTHING IS GOOD FROM C. I GO TO SLEEP WITH IT ON AND LISTEN TO IT WHEN I CAN'T SLEEP. I HAVE THE EAR PAD PLUG UNDER MY PILLOW, TOO. CRANE. I lOVE THE QUALITY AND STURDINESS. ONLY WISH IT HAD A HANDLE LIKE A PORTABLE TO MAKE IT EASIER TO PICK UP BECAUSE IT IS HEAVY.
**UPDATE**I finally had to change the batteries. I am a UPS driver, and need a portable radio for my package car. The only knock on it is that there are a couple of AM channels that should be coming in somewhat better than they do. For it's size, it kicks out an adequate amount of volume.
This is a great, but not perfect, radio. At about 80% volume, roughly 10 hours a day, they lasted 14 days.so approximately 130-150 hours. Other than that, I would highly recommend this radio to anyone who is looking for a smaller, attractive, and great sounding radio. After hearing much about the C.
It uses 4 D size batteries and a week into it (10 hours a day) it still has 2 of 3 battery indicators remaining. Not bad. Crane radios and reading reviews, I thought I would give the Sonido a try. This model definitely meets most of my needs.
Case quality is good and rubberized buttons are a nice touch. I've owned this unit for about a year. 80% NPR and 20% classic rock.Pros: Good am/fm reception. Difficult to find a similar set of features in a comparable product at this pricepoint.
This is not one of them. Lots of great features wrapped up into a solid, quality product. Analog TV reception feature no longer relevant in US after February 2009.There are lots of cheap radios being sold at big box stores that provide very lousy reception. I could use more than 5 FM presets--minor compliant.
A/C plug is included. Rare enough and easily dealt with so as to not outweight the positives for me. I go to bed to it (sleep function) and get up with it (alarm/radio) almost daily. Good to have at least one weather-band radio at home.Cons: Ocassional unexpected behavior regarding alarm: I set radio and get buzzer or vice versa.
Stereo headphone output is nice feature. A/C and D/C power options and timed backlit display are necessary for use as alarm clock. Speaker is fully adequate.
Great price too. Great sound and reception. This is a great radio. It's small enough to move room to room as a portable or plug in at one location.
